The term “purple patch” refers to having an “episode of excellence.” To have “a purple patch” means to have an exceptionally good experience or period in time. Sometimes, these excellent experiences can even occur in the midst of mediocrity.

The published use of the phrase “purple patch” (purpureus pannus) predates the famous Roman poet, Horace (65-8BC). Horace was the finest poet of the Latin language and his works are the master pieces of the Golden Age of Rome. The First Century Epicurean philosopher and poet, Philodemus, used a similar Greek phrase (hai porphurai) in his epigrams.

Company Profile

Purple Patch LLC (dba Purple Patch Motorsports) is a specialty automobile racing accessories dealer/wholesaler and mail-order organization. We are specialized in order to offer uncompromising customer service. Purple Patch LLC is fast becoming the premier source for professional and amateur automotive racing products and services.

Purple Patch Motorsports is founded on the idea that maintaining satisfied customers is essential to the financial health of the organization. With this in mind, Purple Patch LLC will be working diligently to ensure that all of their customer’s expectations are exceeded. In order to maintain a presence within the motorsports community and significant relationships to customers, Purple Patch LLC will be an active member of the local racing scene through participation and sponsorship.

Richard Schnabel, registered agent for Purple Patch LLC, is currently an active member of the east coast road race and TSD rally community. For over 21 years, Richard has participated actively with various regional and national racing organizations. In 1972, he finished 8th overall Class “A” in the IMSA BFG Radial Challenge Series. From 1978 until 1980, he was the GP Class overall winner in the Pennsylvania Hillclimb Association series. Richard has finished first in class in both the Dureya and Mount Equinox Hillclimbs. Richard is currently a licensed competition member of Sport Car Club of America (SCCA - www.scca.org) and was a Protec Racing Team driver finishing third in ITB class at the 1999 Summit Point 12 Hour Enduro and 5th in 2000. He has over a dozen class victories in vintage road race events with Historic Sports Car Racing (HSR - www.hsrrace.com), Sports Car Vintage Racing Association (SVRA - www.svra.com) and Vintage Drivers Club of America (VDCA - www.vintagedrive.com)

Purple Patch LLC was the sponsor of a historic 1973 IMSA Dodge Colt (Carson Baird’s #8 championship car), as well as, a 1970 Autodynamic’s D9 Caldwell Formula Ford during the 2003-04 season. Currently, Purple Patch Motor Sports is campaigning a 1965 Volvo P1800S in various vintage road race events to sponsor our racing products.
