RACE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
For 2.3 & 4.6 Liter AFFF Competition Vehicle Fire Suppression Systems FireCharger These instructions are designed to help you to install the FireCharger 2.3 or 4.6 Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) fire suppression system in competition vehicles. This guidance is general in nature due to the wide variety of vehicles that it may be installed in. 1. Locate the cylinder mounting bracket in a convenient location in the driver's compartment. "THE DISCHARGE CYLINDER MAY BE MOUNTED AT ANY ATTITUDE, EXCEPT, WITH DISCHARGE CYLINDER POINTING DIRECTLY TOWARDS THE FLOOR" Mount the bracket horizontally and secure to the vehicle with a Minimum of 1/4" Grade 5 bolts, nuts and lock washers (Figure 1). 2. Remove the pressure cartridge from the actuator and loosely fasten the cylinder to the mounting bracket (do not charge the cylinder until the installation is complete and the proper operation of the discharge cable is assured) (Figure 2) 3. Mount the discharge cable in a location that can be reached when the driver is tightly strapped in the seat. (Figure 3). Connect the cable to the cable-mounting bracket (this cable can be shortened, if required) and attach the pull wire to the actuator as shown (Figure 3a). 4. There are at least two discharge ports on each cylinder discharge head. Each port must be plumbed to a nozzle) using the included AN tubing and fittings) or plugged (Figure 4). Note: Braided stainless steel lines or steel lines and AN fittings may be substituted if desired or required. Each nozzle has a 180° fan shaped pattern. Aim the nozzle to "blanket" the area to be protected. (The most common placement for engine protection is close to , and at the highest point of the firewall. This will allow for a maximum area of coverage (Figure 4a)). (Protection for the driver is best achieved by locating the nozzle just in front of, or to the side of the seat bottom. This is so the discharge will completely cover the area beneath the driver (Figure4b)).
5. Attach all tubing and nozzles securely to the vehicle. Be sure to prevent chaffing or rubbing of all lines (Figure 5).
6. Operate the pull cable to ensure that the actuator lever moves through it's entire range. Important: For proper actuation, the actuator lever must completely pierce the CO2 cartridge. 7. Remove the cylinder and proceed with charging. 8. After charging, re-mount the cylinder in the mounting bracket and tighten the band clamp securely. Be sure to place the rubber strip under the clamp to prevent chaffing of the cylinder (Figure 8).
9. Remove the CO2 cartridge and re-attach the discharge cable. Test cable to be certain that cable is properly attached and that full motion of the actuator is confirmed. Note: The discharge cable may need adjusting slightly. Be sure to leave enough slack so that the safety clip will insert in the actuator lever. 10. Re-connect the discharge lines to the discharge head. 11. Install the actuator safety pin and re-attach the CO2 cartridge. Make sure the chrome nut on the Actuator top is tight. (Figure 11). Important
Your FireCharger System is now fully installed and ready for operation. Please refer to the Tech Inspection Directions for any questions about operational readiness.
